Is Your Phone Relationship Toxic?
We all have relationships…family, friends, significant others, acquaintances, neighbors and co-workers. Relationships are important for our well-being, they can improve our mental & physical health, provide happiness, and give us emotional support.
So, what about your phone relationship? Is it doing the exact opposite?
Do you find that your rectangular friend is:
Draining your happiness?
Controlling?
An energy vampire?
Impacting your mental health?
Making you feel stuck?
These signs may sound familiar as they describe toxic relationships with humans…and over the last few years, it’s apparent they can also be applied to our phones.
Recently, I’ve noticed that some people keep their phone notifications turned on for everything from text messages to social media.
I completely get that if you have kids or family members that you need to stay in touch with. Thank goodness for technology! Phones these days have a “critical/emergency alert” feature so you can still receive notifications, from certain people, if your phone is set to “do not disturb” mode.
I’m certain this idea isn’t new to everyone, but it just may be that Fear Of Missing Out that causes some to be overly dependent and keep ALL notifications turned on. 😬
So, is the relationship with your phone a healthy or unhealthy one?
If it’s the latter, make the change and take control of your time and your mental health now!
Empower yourself and stop being so overly dependent…it’s okay to take a break in any relationship…including your phone. 😉
