From ‘Why Did I Say That?’ to ‘I’m Proud of Me’
Have you ever walked away from an uneasy situation telling yourself
“I wish I handled that better?” And then you start wishing that you chose another response that wasn’t hostile?
I’m confident all of us can say yes to this and that’s okay, it’s human nature to want to protect ourselves. However, this protection-mode can hurt you more than help you.
When you’re feeling good about yourself and everything is going well, you’re less likely to over-react and say or do something that you regret.
When self-confidence is down and things don’t seem to be going your way, reacting poorly in a negative situation comes easier. Your defenses are at an all-time high and that guard rail is put up.
Practice self-confidence to prevent PCR.
1) Remind yourself of your positive features daily
2) Be kind to yourself
3) Do something that you love often
4) Act on the steps that get you closer to your goal
5) Get out of your comfort zone…try and do something different
Running into conflict is inevitable. When you’re internally prepared to respond, you’ll avoid PCR and walk away feeling proud and saying, “I’m so happy how I handled that…good job self!”
And you’ll find that walking away smiling feels so much better than regretting.
